CHILDREN CENTER
THE CENTER
The first objective of Simba for Kids was to set up a children's center. The association is convinced that the best way to get these children (300+) out of misery is to offer them a good education , allowing them not to repeat the family model and to aspire to a better life.
SITUATION
The first Simba for Kids Children Center is located in Kapsio, a small village of 500 inhabitants which is 1km from the center of Iten . Kapsio is an extremely poor region where children are often left to take care of themselves from the age of 2-3 years.
HOME
The center is open after school from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and during weekends and school holidays (4 months a year). Generally, the school is closed more than half of the days of the year. Children and adolescents can thus come and play in the center and meet their friends there for moments of discussion and sharing in complete safety .
A MULTI-FUNCTIONAL CENTER
MULTI-SPORT TERRAIN
Once the multipurpose room and the kitchen will be finished, meals will be offered to children. During the holidays, many children in the region only eat tea with leftover ugali (boiled corn flour, typical Kenyan dish) from the day before, both in the morning as well as in the evening. Most families cannot offer their children three meals a day: see "Support for families".
A HOME FOR VOLUNTEERS
LEISURE CENTER
Volunteers regularly go to Iten for sports or humanitarian trips: see " Being a volunteer and / or ambassador ". Intercultural exchanges between children and volunteers are privileged and unique moments.
Our goal is to encourage these exchanges, which is why we wish to build a 1st floor in the Children Center which will have rooms and dormitories in order to welcome volunteers and give them the possibility of living an unforgettable experience in the heart of the local population.
The centre infrastructure allows athletes to play football, volleyball or hockey , while others have the possibility to do puzzles, play to diverse games, read or draw. The little ones have the opportunity to enjoy toboggans, swings and seesaws .
The center includes a multi-sport field, created in February 2020 . Several events have already taken place, such as a football tournament against the Chamonix running club; inter-class meetings after lessons; intercultural exchanges with volunteers; meetings with great champions such as Julien Wanders and Anamal Petros; a karate initiation with Christelle Sturtz (former World Cup winner) or diverse sports days.
